NHL Awards Tonight

The big question tonight is whether the Hart Trophy will go to Alex Ovechkin. Evgeni Malkin, or Pavel Datsyuk.  All three are amazing players, so this’ll be a tough one to call.  I think that Ovie has the edge over Malkin and Datstuk, though.  The Hart is supposed to go to the player deemed most valuable to their team.  That’s where Ovechkin has the edge.

Is Malkin that much better than Sidney Crosby?

Would Detroit be a complete failure without Datsyuk?

The answer to both questions is, “No.”  Washington would not be as good a team without Ovechkin.  Bruce Boudreau is a great coach, but he wouldn’t be as good if he didn’t have Ovechkin.  He makes everyone around him better- his teammates and opponents.

And, he might have won the Art Ross, but he missed a few games, and Malkin didn’t.  In those few games, Ovie probably would’ve had those four extra points to beat Malkin.  Alex Ovechkin is the best player, no question.

Besides, anyone who has the nerve to do a fire-stick celebration like Ovechkin did is awesome in my book. 🙂
