10/14/09 Stars KILL Trashville aka “So Much Better Than Glee”

Sorry this is long overdue, but I just haven’t had the time.  So, first of all, I wanted to explain the second part of the title.  Every Wednesday night, my new favorite TV show, Glee comes on.  I had to decide whether or not to watch the game and skip Glee, or to watch Glee and skip the game.  It was an easy decision to watch the Stars play, but I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t watch my show.  After the first period was over, I knew I’d made the right choice. 🙂

Now, I don’t know why the Stars played so well.  I honestly expected the Preds to be tough customers like they always are, especially after that 6-1 loss to Edmonton their previous game.  Boy was I wrong!

The Stars played incredibly AWESOME.  Especially my guy, Brad Richards.  Did you SEE that pass to Morrow on B-Mo’s second goal?  OMFG, that was slick!  I didn’t even see him pass it.  One second he had the puck, and the next it was on Morrow’s stick going into the net.  It’s times like those when I know why he’s my favorite.

How about that penalty kill, huh?  Hopefully this is the beginning of a huge, huge improvement.

Marty Turco owned the Preds, and his shutout will totally boost his confidence.

Overall, the game was an awesome, awesome, awesome effort by the Stars

Tonight they’re up against Boston.  Except tonight there’s no one to fight Milan Lucic. 😦  Darn.

Go Stars!

10/11/09 Shootout Sucks aka “Insert Your Kyle Wellwood Fat Joke Here”

After last night’s game, I totally and completely hate the shootout.  Right now, I blame Marty Turco for all of the SO woes, so the Stars need to end it in overtime from now on.  And I kind of hate the fact that Kyle Wellwood scored the game winner.  Like the title says, Insert your Kyle Wellwood fat joke here.

But hey, the Stars are undefeated in regulation. 🙂  And that’s a high point.

Another high point is how freakin’ awesome the young guys are playing.  James Neal is one of the best, if not the best, player each night.  He’s adjusting to the new system really well.  And how about Nick Grossman leading the league in plus-minus as a +8?  Pretty cool.  Then, there’s Tom Wandell, who impresses me more and more with each shift.

And I just wanted to say that B-Rad’s goal last night was the most awesomest thing I saw last night.  It’s times like that when I simply swell with pride at my favorite player. 🙂

It was also pretty enlightening to see Lehts back last night.  I hate to think that this is probably his last season, so I want to see him play as much as I can before he’s gone.  And because Jere Lehtinen pretty much rocks. 😀

It would have been nice if the Stars had won that shootout, but I think that there are plenty of tother things we should think about rather than a lost point. (I mean, we did get a point, no complaints here.)

What’s worrying me most? Two words: Penalty kill. 😦  I’m usually overly optimistic, but I’m not gonna lie when I say that it truly sucks.  Why worry about Marty Turco when the true issue is penalty kill?  At least with Turco we have a backup plan called Alex Auld.  The PK is KILLING them.  I don’t want his season to go down the drain because of the effing penalty kill.  Sigh.

Let’s think happier thoughts, like the fact that Jamie Benn, our studly rookie, got his first goal last night!!! 😀  Woot woot for Jamie! 🙂

As for Stephane Robidas, I knew it was only a matter of time before he took a puck to the face.  Luckily, this one wasn’t as serious, and I don’t believe he’ll have to wear the cage.  But seriously, I thought it would be more than five games in before he got hit.  Guess I was wrong. 😛

Next up is Wednesday against Trashville.  Go Stars!

Captain Morrow takes down one of those twins. :P

Captain Morrow takes down one of those twins, and then there's B-Rad. 😛

10/3/09 Shootout Loss to Preds

First of all, I want to congratualte Stephane Robidas on such a finely delivered hit on J.P. Dumont.  Trashville, that was payback for the Tootoo hit three years ago. 😛
Anyway, game review time, I thought the Stars looked slow through the first and most of the second period.  The first James Neal goal gave them momentum that they really needed.  And it was a pretty awesome goal.  I mean, Nealer was practically falling when he scored it. 🙂
They probably would have won if not for Dan Ellis’ (unfortunately) spectacular goaltending.  They played a solid game towards the end, and if they always play that way, this will be a good season.  I think I like Marc Crawford’s system.

Games to Watch in 09-10

I’ve been a bit off the radar lately, but that’s only because I was on vacation in Arizona in, like, the middle of nowhere.  Anyway, here are the games I’ll be watching for sure next year:

Oct. 3 vs. Nashville- I very interested to see the “new” Dallas Stars under Marc Crawford.  Plus, I’m pining for the Stars and this is the first time I’ll see them this season.

Oct. 28 vs. Toronto- We’d better win this game.  I want another 8-2 smashing over the Leafs, and more importantly, Jonas Gustavsson.

Nov. 7 @ Minnesota- Good things happen on November 7 to the Stars.  Modano scored his record-breaking goal two years ago, and one year ago, Mark Parrish scored a hat trick in his debut.  So what will we get this year?

Nov. 18 @ Detroit- Marty Turco may finally have battled his Detroit demons, so this one is a must-watch.  Playing Detroit is either an intense, yet entertaining match, or a drubbing on our part.  However, there is no feeling quite like the one you get when you beat Detroit.

Nov. 28 vs. Tampa Bay- It’s always interesting to see Brad Richards play against his BFF, Vinny Lecavalier.

Dec. 31 vs. Anaheim- So our New Year’s Eve game is against the Sucks?  I like it. 🙂

Jan 6. @ NY Rangers- Duh.

Jan. 8 vs. NY Islanders- Stars fans will get to see John Tavares for themselves.  Need I say anymore?

Mar. 8 @ Washington- My two favorite teams go head-to-head, but hopefully the Stars come out on top. 🙂

That happy feeling one gets when beating the Red Wings :D
